Motherwell 2 Ayr United 1 (Scottish Cup)
on Wednesday, March 14th, 1951
This was a Scottish Cup quarter-final replay. Motherwell got the winner in the final minute of extra time. The crowd was 27,000 on a Wednesday afternoon. On the Saturday the drawn tie at Ayr had drawn a sold-out crowd of 22,152. The ticket allocation for that first game caused a bus strike.
