Inverness Caledonian Thistle halted a six-game winless streak to move out of the Scottish Championship relegation zone with victory at Ayr United.
The hosts had an opener disallowed for offside when Michael Miller headed in Tom Walsh's delivery.
And Caley Thistle drew first blood as Daniel MacKay rounded off a swift counter-attack.
Mark Ridgers twice denied Luke McCowan an equaliser before Shane Sutherland's smart second-half strike settled it.
Ayr replace Caley Thistle on goal difference in second bottom after back-to-back defeats, with a five-point cushion on Alloa Athletic.
