Biography

John Sludden (29 December 1964 – 7 May 2021, Falkirk, Scotland) was a Scottish footballer and striker who played for Ayr United from 1986 to 1989. Joining from Airdrieonians in July 1986 under manager Ally MacLeod, he formed part of a talented attack-minded team alongside Henry Templeton. Sludden scored 31 league goals in the 1987–88 season as Ayr United won the Second Division Championship, and scored the last-ever goal at Muirton Park in a 1–0 win over St Johnstone in 1989. He made approximately 112–140 appearances for Ayr United, scoring 80–84 goals. After leaving for Kilmarnock in 1989, he played for East Fife, Clydebank, Clyde and Stenhousemuir before moving into management with Bo'ness United and East Stirlingshire.
